I used it in this lab to put together a small environment with a floor, brick walls, fences, and a stone bridge. Then I added a player so I could explore it.

The first version ended with three things still missing: items to collect, a sound when collecting them, and a score counter. Now it’s all finished. The scene has a small task to complete: collecting four pink floating balls.

Why Is This So Annoying?

I like this photo because you don’t need a design degree to understand it. There is a neat paved path, carefully laid out, and then there is the route people actually take. If I were late for class, I know which one I’d choose. The pathway already lost that argument.

That shortcut has a name: a desire path. It forms when enough people repeatedly walk the same unplanned route. It can tell us something that a drawing cannot: where people want to go, and how much of a detour they are willing to accept. The Natural Navigator has more examples of these paths.

HCI — Lab 1A: Building Joao’s Files

This blog is part of my Human–Computer Interaction coursework, but I wanted it to feel like a place of my own. Before I could share any projects, I had to get the site running.

I used Hugo, a tool that turns text files and a theme into web pages. That means I can write a post, add its images, and let Hugo build the website. Simple enough in principle. On my Windows setup, getting there involved competing installations, missing files, and a few errors I didn’t immediately understand.
